December 25 - Christmas Day
Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate! I spend most of the day with my parents at their house, so I only read for a short amount of time. Today's post is going to focus on how John Green uses language and dialogue in his books.
I know this sounds boring, but I noticed something as I was reading. I was intrigued by how much the dialogue between characters reveals ABOUT the characters. I think this is fresh in my mind because of the writing we've done in class. I encouraged everyone to use dialogue and now I am looking at it as a reader.
Authors use dialogue to tell us so much about the characters. We learn about the physical descriptions, personalities, personal histories, and, let's face it, quirks of characters through the dialogue and interactions amongst the characters.
Think about the dialogue that you notice in your book. Or, think about the dialogue that you've included in your creative writing stories. Why is it important for authors to include dialogue in their stories?
It is important to include dialogue because it helps the readers connect to the characters or help the story not feel boring or dull. In my book, they don't use much of Dialogue because it is a biography, but they use quotes or dialogue from an author, or in an interview about Alexander Hamilton's life.
